We rented an apartment in the Pocitos neighborhood of Montevideo for our first month in Uruguay. Pocitos is a neighborhood right by the beach called Playa Pocitos. We wanted to explore other neighborhoods of Montevideo so we got a taxi to take us to the Juan Manuel Blanes Municipal Museum of the Arts (pictured above) which was in the Prado neighborhood Montevideo.
The building is really nice but we didn’t go in. It didn’t seem that interesting anyways. So we walked behind the building to the Japanese garden. It wasn’t open when we got there. Peeking through the gate, I saw workers inside watering the plants and cleaning up with trash bags.
It was quiet around the museum with some people sitting and drinking mate.
Next we walked to Jardín Botánico (botanical garden) which was filled with people taking leisurely walks and some were jogging. We walked on the pathways surrounded by trees and plants.
Next, we walked to the Rose Garden. I don’t remember seeing many roses probably because it’s approaching winter now in May. There were some flowers though and also a big fountain in the middle.
Here’s a Vine video shot at the Rose Garden:
