Mermelada de zapallo on a piece of bread was the first thing I ate in Uruguay.
My parents went to a grocery store and bought a 250 g jar and we ate the whole thing in 2 days. It’s that good. And also because I barely ate anything during our 18 hour road trip so for breakfast I had 5 pieces of bread with mermelada de zapallo.
The next day we went to a grocery store kind of like Target and I headed straight for the marmalade aisle and found a 500 g jar!
Los Nietitos’ website (the company that makes it) in English says it’s called Squash Jam.
It’s libre de gluten (gluten free) and made of zapallos (squash) and lots of azúcar (sugar). Not super healthy. But squash is a vegetable, right? 🙂
