Hi! I’m Bethany Looi. Thanks for visiting my site!
I’m a college student who spends my days between classes, working at the VaynerMedia office in NYC, and helping small business owners create social media strategies and content.
With the help and direction of a mentor, I started a virtual assisting business that later turned social media based. For the last 5 years I’ve served clients in the health and wellness, travel, and food spaces.
During those 5 years, I took a 2 year gap year. After graduating high school a year early, I decided to focus on my business and discover my place in the world through travel.
My parents, younger brother, and I embarked on a life-changing journey. With my business, I was able to fund the trip to 14 countries (not by my parents!) and it taught me the value of money and hard work. To date, I’ve been to over 30 countries.
After the two-year gap year, I am now based in New York City and enrolled as a full time online college student working towards getting an undergraduate degree.
Before making the decision to attend college, like many students, I didn’t know what to major in college. I didn’t even know if college was for me. One thing for certain was I didn’t want to be in the dreaded student loans and debt statistic.
To avoid that, I kept at my social media business, traveled, and also had the opportunity to intern at VaynerMedia, a digital marketing agency. I am now working out of their New York office part time.
I made the decision to attend college when I found a desirable program and as a way for additional opportunities. I also interned at VisitBritain, the tourist board of Great Britain for eight months while working part time at VaynerMedia and attending college full-time. I’m a huge advocate for students taking alternative routes and finding what works for them, though it’s not easy!
Hotels and Afternoon Tea
Through traveling I’ve discovered a love for luxury hotels. I just love everything about a hotel’s interior design, locations, and branding.
As for afternoon tea (yes, that British tradition), I enjoy the art of taking tea, specifically at a hotel. It truly is an art, which I’m intrigued in especially having reviewed over 30 afternoon teas on my site.
Apart from afternoon tea, on my site you’ll find more about my interests including photography, golf, the Spanish language, non-profits, and of course, traveling!
