One of the ways I find things to do when I’m in a different city is through Instagram. I search by location or hashtags and one of my favorite hashtags is #afternoon tea (no surprises there!).
Since starting a new Instagram account dedicated to afternoon tea, @loveafternoontea, I’ve found so many places I still need to have afternoon tea around the world. At the same time, I’ve started to notice trends.
These are the 7 most popular places for afternoon tea around the world… according to Instagram:
1. The Kensington, London
This is one I’ve been to! You can read my full review of afternoon tea at The Kensington here. It’s a special one to me because it was here that I had my first afternoon tea in London.
The Kensington had a special afternoon tea called “Tale as Old as Time”, a Beauty and the Beast themed menu, which apparently is so popular that it’s sold out. This is what I kept seeing on Instagram. I can see why though – so cute!
2. Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo
I love having afternoon teas at Mandarin Oriental hotels. Though I’ve been to Tokyo, I haven’t been to this Mandarin Oriental yet. It seems like a really popular one in Tokyo among locals as I keep seeing it every time I search #afternoontea with captions in Japanese. I assume they’re all writing how great the tea is!
3. Baccarat Hotel, New York City
This is another afternoon tea I’ve been to, in my home city! You can read about afternoon tea at the Baccarat Hotel here. It’s one of the pricier afternoon teas in the city. Though it honestly isn’t my favorite, I think it looks beautiful served on Baccarat crystal!
4. The Ritz, London
As a classic hotel in London, I can understand why the Ritz is on the list. It seems popular among locals and mainly for visitors to London.
5. Betty’s, York
From what I’ve heard, having afternoon tea at Betty’s in York is a must do when visiting the city. From searching the #afternoontea, this Betty’s location in York and their Harrogate location often show up and posted by locals and mainly visitors to the cities.
6. Fortnum & Mason, London
I spent lots of time in this department store when I was last in London. Though I didn’t have time for afternoon tea, I can see from visiting and also from #afternoon tea on Instagram that it’s a really popular afternoon spot in London.
7. Sketch, London
Last but not least is another London location. From what I’ve seen Sketch is so Instagrammable. The interior is pink and photographing the afternoon tea against the pink looks amazing.
