During my trip to Madrid, I chose to stay at two hotels so I could experience the different attractions of Madrid, all by foot. One was Gran Meliá Palacio de los Duques and the other, the iconic Hotel Ritz, Madrid.
Being a person who enjoys museums and art, the Ritz was one of the hotels I wanted to stay at due to its proximity to Madrid’s world-renowned Museo del Prado.
The Ritz Madrid has a great Art Experience package, which is for a minimum stay of two nights. Included in the rate is complimentary airport arrival transfer to the hotel.
A three-course dinner with wine pairing at their restaurant, La Goya for two people. (I chose to sit outside on the terrace, where you could hear the busy city life outside of the walls of the enclosed garden area, yet feel at peace. I ordered jamon, aka ham because that’s what I wanted to try in Madrid. Turned out to be this giant plateful of it, which I couldn’t finish and now wish I could have some. But anyway…)
The package also included afternoon tea for two people. You can read the full review of afternoon tea at Hotel Ritz Madrid here.
And here’s the art part of the Art Experience package.
It included two tickets to the Prado Museum, plus we didn’t have to wait in line to buy tickets.
It also included two tickets to the Thyssen-Bornemisza museum, which was my favorite of the museums that I visited in Madrid.
And also two tickets to the Reina Sofia museum. My mom and I went to all three museums in the 48 hours that we were staying at the Ritz Madrid.
The highlight of the Reina Sofia museum was sitting outside at this outdoor seating area of a restaurant that specialized in bocadillo de calamares, which is basically a fried calamari. It’s like eating carbs on carbs or something…
On one of the evenings, I was able to walk to the Salamanca district of Madrid. It is about a ten minute walk from the hotel to the neighborhood.
One of the reasons I wanted to go was for this store: The Hip Tee. I followed this company on Instagram way back when I first got my account six years ago. And I finally got to go during my trip to Madrid.
The Hip Tee isn’t the only store in Salamanca. This area has several high-end stores, included the flagship of Loewe, a Spanish luxury fashion brand. They also have a flower shop at the flagship store and also these elephant shaped bags that I really want.
There’s a lot to see on the way to Salamanca from the Ritz, including Puerta de Alcalá, the Alcalá gate.
Another main highlight around the Ritz Madrid is Retiro Park. The hotel offers morning running tours in the park. It’s just a five minute walk to the main entrance of the park.
I walked into Retiro Park twice during my 48 stay at the Ritz. One of the times, I went in to see the Palacio de Cristal, Crystal Palace.
I’m glad I was able to experience a stay at Hotel Ritz Madrid for its history and proximity to all the museums and attractions that I wanted to visit, all within walking distance to the hotel.
